Anambra Guber Candidate Vows To Scrap State Vigilante Group

AWKA – Chioma Ifemeludike, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in the November 8 Anambra election, has pledged to disband the state-owned Agunechemba Vigilante Group if elected.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ifemeludike criticized the group as ineffective and vowed to replace it with a restructured, community-based security framework.

“I am going to scrap the Agunechemba vigilante group because it’s not effective; they weren’t adequate at the time that they had their chance,” she stated.

The candidate emphasized that her proposed vigilante network would be locally recruited, government-regulated, and professionally trained to address misconduct and improve accountability.

She also cautioned against excessive armament, stating, “It doesn’t mean handing them AK-47s.”
