Nigeria’s Youth Rep Calls For Structural Reforms in African Youth Councils

DJIBOUTI – Ambassador Oladele John Nihi, Vice President (West Africa) of the Pan African Youth Union, has advocated for structural reforms and standardized governance models for National Youth Councils across Africa.

Speaking at the 5th Pan-African Youth Forum in Djibouti, Nihi emphasized the need for uniform identity and harmonized structures to enhance coordination and policy influence among youth bodies.

Addressing governance realities, he proposed a balanced model combining government-appointed boards with four-year tenures and youth-elected executives serving two-year terms.

“This model strikes a balance between stability and youth-driven leadership,” Nihi stated, ensuring young people remain central to decision-making while maintaining governmental collaboration.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria has commended Nihi’s contributions, noting they position Nigeria as a leading voice in African youth development.
