KATSINA, NIGERIA – A Nigeria Premier Football League match between Katsina United and Barau FC was temporarily suspended on Saturday after home fans attacked an opposing player, leaving him with a deep neck wound.
The violence erupted in the 69th minute when Barau FC’s Orji Kalu scored an equalizer to level the match at 1-1, angering sections of the home supporters. Barau FC confirmed on social media that their player, Nana Abraham, was attacked and suffered a neck injury that required medical attention.
Disturbing images from the match showed Abraham bleeding profusely as teammates and officials struggled to control the chaotic situation. Security personnel intervened to restore order and allow medical attention for the injured player.
This incident marks the second such violence in the NPFL within a month, following a similar pitch invasion by Kano Pillars fans that resulted in heavy sanctions including point deductions and stadium closure.
As of press time, neither Katsina United nor NPFL management had issued an official statement regarding the attack or potential sanctions.
