Abuja – Senator Austin Akobundu (Abia Central) has identified all-inclusive governance, poverty eradication, and youth empowerment as critical solutions to the lingering insecurity in Nigeria’s southeast zone and the nation at large.
Speaking as Chairman of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on North East/South-East Security Summit, Akobundu told delegates in Enugu that the nation must uphold “principles of equity and justice with sincerity of purpose” to curb security challenges. He emphasized that the National Assembly would use summit inputs to amend existing laws and create new comprehensive legislation for a more secure Nigeria.
In a significant revelation, Senator Akobundu confirmed that southeast senators are actively pursuing a political solution for Nnamdi Kanu’s release, having engaged the Minister of Justice and written to President Tinubu. “We will not relent in our advocacy until Nnamdi Kanu is released,” he stated during a press interaction.
The security summit brought together state governors’ representatives, federal and state lawmakers, traditional rulers, and security agencies to brainstorm on strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.
