In a significant political shift, six members of the House of Representatives defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday. The high-profile event was attended by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.
Five of the defectors are from Enugu State, moving from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while one member from Plateau State left the Labour Party (LP). The lawmakers cited “protracted and irreconcilable crises” within their former parties as the reason for their move.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read their defection letters and formally welcomed them to the APC. “You have taken the right decision by joining the ruling party,” Abbas stated, a move that strengthens the APC’s majority in the legislature.
This realignment follows Governor Mbah’s own recent defection to the APC, signaling a changing political landscape in the South-East region.
