EFCC Raids Student Hostels in Abia Community, Sparks Panic

ABIA, Nigeria – Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have conducted raids on off-campus student hostels in the Umuariaga community, Ikwuano Local Government Area, causing widespread panic.

According to eyewitness accounts, the anti-graft agency’s Uyo team stormed the area on a day coinciding with a university matriculation ceremony.

The raid targeted at least two hostels: Okorie Lodge and Light House Student Lodge.

Witnesses reported that the operation led to the arrest of several students, plunging the community into tension. It was also alleged that the operatives used two Toyota buses, one with the registration number ADC 889TD Abuja and another without a plate number.

There are further allegations from students that EFCC officials have been “constantly raiding and arresting innocent students” and collecting money on the road to free victims.

The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the operation or the allegations.
