Forum Threatens to Mobilise Workers for Nationwide Strike

A coalition of civil service and labour groups, operating under the aegis of the Nigeria Workers’ Justice Forum, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government, as the Forum threatens to mobilise workers for nationwide strike over worsening insecurity and stagnant wages.

In a communiqué issued Sunday in Abuja, the Forum accused the government of failing to protect lives and property, citing recent mass kidnappings, bandit attacks, and the killing of farmers across several states.

“The Nigerian worker can no longer afford transport to work. We are being killed on the highways and underpaid in our offices. Enough is enough,” said Forum spokesperson Comrade Bala Usman.

The group demands an immediate review of the national minimum wage to N250,000 and a state of emergency on security.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have not officially endorsed the threat but confirmed “talks are ongoing.”

The Presidency has yet to issue an official response.
