ABUJA – The Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA) has announced the tragic death of Reverend Edwin Achi, an Anglican priest abducted from his home in Kaduna last month.
Reverend Achi, who served at Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, was kidnapped with his wife and daughter on October 28, 2025. The Kaduna Anglican Diocese reported that the kidnappers demanded a ₦600 million ransom.
Despite the ransom demand, the Diocese confirmed that Reverend Achi did not survive the ordeal. His wife and daughter remain in captivity.
In a statement, NSCEA Secretary General Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies honored the cleric as a “devoted servant of God” and condemned the ongoing targeting of religious leaders.
The council called on federal and state authorities to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the remaining family members and end the “scourge of kidnapping and banditry.”
