Senator Goje Accuses Akpabio of “Unparliamentary” Conduct During Senate Plenary

A rowdy session disrupted Senate proceedings on Tuesday after Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of “unparliamentary” conduct.

The confrontation occurred when Akpabio, upon entering the chamber, summoned the Senate Leader and others to the podium for a private meeting while plenary was in session. Goje immediately raised a point of order, citing Senate rules that prohibit such interactions during official business.

“What you are doing is unparliamentary. You are disturbing the business of the Senate. You cannot be holding a separate meeting when the Senate is in session,” Goje asserted, refusing an invitation to join the discussion.

Akpabio explained the meeting was to discuss an urgent assignment at the Presidential Villa, but Goje remained firm, stating the action was “wrong” and that he would not participate. The Senate President later noted the session was to coordinate attendance at the Armed Forces Emblem Launch.
