Senate Confirms General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s New Defence Minister

The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the country’s new Minister of Defence.

The confirmation followed an intensive five-hour screening session on Wednesday, just one day after President Bola Tinubu forwarded the nomination. General Musa assumes office at a critical time, with the nation grappling with escalating insecurity, including recent mass abductions of schoolchildren.

During his screening, the new minister pledged to investigate the recent kidnapping in Kebbi State, where troops were reported to have withdrawn before the attack. He vowed to strengthen coordination among all security agencies and government departments to confront the nation’s security challenges head-on.

“We are going to go after them fully,” General Musa stated, emphasizing his commitment to robust action.
