Ex-CBN Chief Moghalu Condemns “Hypocrisy” of Some Tinubu Ambassadorial Nominees

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has publicly criticized some of President Bola Tinubu’s newly nominated ambassadors, accusing them of staggering hypocrisy for accepting appointments after previously hurling personal abuse at the president.

Reacting on social media platform X, Moghalu expressed shock at the conduct of certain nominees whose past harsh comments about Tinubu now contrast with their willingness to serve in his administration.

“I am chilled to the bones when I see what some of today’s ambassadorial nominees have written and said about him in the past,” Moghalu wrote.

While stating he held no political bias, Moghalu argued that extreme personal attacks followed by acceptance of appointments raised serious questions about character. “It’s quite OK to disagree with people politically… But the kind of EXTREME, personally abusive… language these people have used to describe a human being, and then later on turn around and accept crumbs from the subject of the abuse, is staggering!” he said.

Moghalu described the conduct as a reflection of the nominees’ own values rather than Tinubu’s, suggesting that political convenience was overriding integrity. “To go to such extremes just because of fleeting political opposition… and then eat your own vomit speaks far more… about the speaker or the writer,” he added.

His remarks follow President Tinubu’s submission of a list of 65 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation on Thursday. The list includes several high-profile political figures, such as former senators, whose past criticisms are now under scrutiny.
