A moment of tension unfolded on Sunday at the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, when Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, publicly urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to shorten his speech.
Videos circulating on social media show Governor Adeleke, known for his vibrant dancing, taking to the podium to give a speech at the high-profile event in Ile-Ife. As he began singing in his customary style, Senator Tinubu approached him, stating, “I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough.”
When Adeleke continued, the First Lady returned, warning, “I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.” The incident occurred during an event attended by dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, various governors, and traditional rulers.
The clash comes amid Governor Adeleke’s search for a new political platform after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last month. Meanwhile, during her speech after being conferred with the chieftaincy title of Yeye-Asiwaju of Ile Oodua, Senator Tinubu expressed optimism, predicting that Nigeria’s prosperity from 2026 would be “unstoppable.”
