The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old woman and her 28-year-old son for their alleged involvement in a money ritual attempt involving a 10-year-old boy.
The suspects, identified as Maria and Adewale, were apprehended in Ile-Oluji, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area, on December 27 following a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team rescued the child, who has been taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the mother conspired with her son to engage a herbalist for the ritual. Both suspects are in custody and have reportedly confessed to the crime.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal commended the operatives and urged parents to instill values of hard work and integrity in their children, discouraging the “get-rich-quick” mindset.
The suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
