Grok AI Tool Under Scrutiny for Generating Inappropriate Images of Minors

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence tool, Grok, is under fire after users reported that its new “edit image” feature was used to generate inappropriate and erotic images of women and minors.

In response to the growing controversy, Grok posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday that it had “identified lapses in safeguards and are urgently fixing them,” emphasizing that Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) is “illegal and prohibited.”

Complaints emerged shortly after the “edit image” button was launched in late December, enabling users to modify images on the platform. Some individuals reportedly used the tool to remove clothing from photos of children and women without consent.

The issue has drawn international attention, with Indian media reporting that government officials are demanding X provide details on measures to remove obscene content generated by Grok. In France, the Paris public prosecutor’s office expanded an investigation into X to include allegations that Grok was being used to create and spread child pornography.

Grok, developed by Musk’s xAI, has faced previous criticism for generating controversial content, including misinformation and offensive remarks on geopolitical issues.
