Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed a surprise return to South African Premier Division side Chippa United, five months after leaving the club by mutual consent. The club confirmed his return ahead of the 2026/27 season.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Chippa United announced Nwabali’s comeback on its official social media platforms, expressing delight at welcoming the Nigerian international back to the Eastern Cape-based club. The goalkeeper had terminated his contract with the club in February 2026 while seeking a new challenge but remained without a new team during the transfer window.
Nwabali’s prolonged absence from competitive club football reportedly affected his standing in the Super Eagles, as he lost regular playing time and faced increased competition for the national team’s number one shirt. His return to Chippa United is expected to provide him with an opportunity to regain match fitness and revive his international career.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the 30-year-old goalkeeper became a fan favourite during his previous spell with Chippa United and earned widespread recognition following his outstanding performances for Nigeria at recent international tournaments. His return is seen as a significant boost for the South African club ahead of the new season.
The former Enyimba and Lobi Stars shot-stopper will now be hoping to re-establish himself as Chippa United’s first-choice goalkeeper and strengthen his chances of reclaiming a regular place in the Super Eagles.
