Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have recorded another breakthrough in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in Borno State, reportedly killing an ISWAP cameraman and uncovering the presence of a foreign terrorist trainer and a medical doctor operating within insurgent camps in the Sambisa Forest and Lake Chad region.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the operation was based on intelligence-led offensives targeting key members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Military sources said the neutralised cameraman was responsible for producing and distributing propaganda videos used by the terrorist group to recruit members and spread extremist ideology.
According to the military, troops also uncovered evidence indicating that a foreign national had been training insurgents in specialised combat tactics, while another suspect believed to be serving as a medical doctor was providing treatment to wounded terrorists inside the forest camps. The discoveries are expected to assist ongoing investigations into the international links supporting terrorist activities in the North-East.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the latest operation forms part of sustained efforts by the Armed Forces to dismantle ISWAP’s operational network, disrupt its logistics and propaganda machinery, and deny terrorists freedom of movement across Borno State. Recent military offensives have led to the elimination of several commanders, the arrest of suspected collaborators, and the recovery of weapons and other equipment.
Security authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist groups until lasting peace and stability are restored across the North-East.
