Wike Bans Staff Phones After Clash With Naval Officer

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed a ban on mobile phones for staff on Grade Level 14 and below at the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) and the Department of Land Administration.

The directive, which took effect on Wednesday, is widely believed to be a response to the circulation of a video showing Wike’s heated confrontation with a naval officer at a disputed land site. The video was reportedly shared on WhatsApp groups by staff of the affected agencies.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has stated that the naval officer involved, Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima, will not face disciplinary action, as he was “acting on orders” and remained “respectful while standing his ground.”
