A senior aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has claimed that the retired Chief of Naval Staff at the center of a recent land dispute was a victim of a scam.
In a television interview, Lere Olayinka, Wike’s spokesperson on media, stated that the contested land in Mabushi was originally allocated in 2007 for a “park and recreation” center, not residential use. He alleged that a company, Santos Estate Limited, illegally partitioned and sold the land after its request to change the land use was denied in 2022.
“The Chief of Naval Staff was scammed… Instead of him to now come out and seek help, he resorted to use military might,” Olayinka stated, defending the Minister’s actions during the now-viral confrontation.
