Abia APC Accuses Governor Otti of Threatening Opposition Amid Rising Tensions

UMUAHIA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has sounded an alarm, accusing Governor Alex Otti’s administration of resorting to threats and intimidation against the opposition.

The allegation comes as political opposition in the state gains momentum, fueled by criticisms over the governor’s performance. The APC group claims that after 29 months in office, Governor Otti’s government has failed to deliver on major campaign promises like the Abia seaport, modular refinery, and airport, despite receiving over N1 trillion in state revenue.

According to the statement, the government’s “fear” of this growing dissent has “birthed threats, intimidation, and talks of writing wills,” which the opposition views as a “recipe for crisis and anarchy.”

The group also highlighted recent controversies, including a N72 billion school repairs budget and a lack of transparency in road project costs, as key issues eroding public trust. They assert that a government confident in its achievements would not resort to fear tactics with an election still years away.

“A government sure of its stewardship should be eager to showcase its achievements as the basis for re-election, not resort to threats,” the statement read, concluding that “Abia State is now a low-hanging fruit for the opposition.”
