Abia APC Celebrates Peaceful Primaries, Congratulates Eric Opah on Landslide Governorship Victory Over Chief Henry Ikoh

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warmly congratulated members, aspirants, and party stakeholders for conducting what it described as a peaceful, transparent, and credible governorship primary election, as international businessman Chief Eric Opah emerged the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in a landslide victory.

In an official statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC confirmed that Opah emerged victorious after polling a total of 125,977 votes to decisively defeat his closest rival, former Minister of State Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, who scored 5,905 votes across the 184 wards in the state where the primaries were conducted on Thursday.

The party stated: “We commend all aspirants, party faithful, electoral officials, and stakeholders for their commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and credible primary election process which reflects the growing strength and unity of the APC in Abia State.”

The exercise was contested between Opah and Chief Henry Ikoh, following the withdrawal of Mascot Uzor Kalu from the race on Wednesday, May 20, just a day after being cleared by the party — leaving both Opah and Ikoh, who both hail from Abia Central Senatorial District, as the only remaining aspirants in the contest.

The APC expressed full confidence in its new governorship candidate, stating: “We are confident that Chief Eric Opah possesses the leadership capacity, vision, and experience required to lead our party to victory in the 2027 general elections and return the Government House to Umuahia under the banner of the APC.”
