Abia Central APC Stakeholders Petition National Chairman, Accuse Sam Onuigbo of Sabotage Over Primary Results

A coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Abia Central Senatorial District has petitioned APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, rejecting allegations of electoral malpractice in the May 18 senatorial primary and accusing Hon. Sam Onuigbo of deliberate party sabotage.

In the petition released on Monday, the group described claims of irregularities raised by Onuigbo’s associates as a “calculated campaign of falsehood” designed to destabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders identified the petitioners — Uche Onyejekwe and Mrs. Ego Nwamuo — as Onuigbo’s personal staff members from his home community of Ibere in Ikwuano LGA, stressing that they do not represent the district’s broader leadership or membership.

Defending the integrity of the May 18 primary, the group provided official vote tallies showing a decisive outcome — Hon. Emeka Atuma polled 36,935 votes; Senator Nkechi Nwaogu received 11,457 votes; while Hon. Sam Onuigbo trailed with just 5,833 votes.

The stakeholders argued that Onuigbo’s poor showing reflects weak grassroots support, and that his protests represent a desperate attempt to “manufacture a crisis” out of a free and transparent process.

They further cited Onuigbo’s post-2023 election litigation as evidence of a pattern of actions that distracted and weakened the APC’s standing in Abia State.

The petition was signed by key party leaders across multiple local government areas including Ikwuano, Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Isiala-Ngwa South, Isiala-Ngwa North, and Osisioma LGAs — representing a broad cross-section of Abia Central’s APC structure.

The group urged the APC National Working Committee to disregard the petitions and focus attention on 2027 election preparations.
The APC national leadership had not issued a formal response as of press time.
