The Abia State Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Ugwumba Adiele, has defended the authenticity of dates appearing on INEC nomination forms circulating on social media, describing contrary claims as misleading and uninformed.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Adiele was reacting to debates surrounding the nomination documents of Prince Paul Ikonne and other successful candidates, with some social media users alleging discrepancies in the dates contained in the forms.
According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) distributed nomination forms and access codes to political parties on June 24, 2026, after which parties began issuing them to duly cleared candidates. He explained that while some parties commenced distribution on June 25, others started later, depending on their internal schedules.
Adiele noted that the dates appearing on Prince Paul Ikonne’s nomination form were valid and in full compliance with INEC guidelines. He added that the forms are not available to all aspirants but are issued only to candidates who have emerged through valid party primaries and have been officially cleared by their political parties.
The PDP youth leader further stated that candidates who have received INEC nomination forms and access codes remain the authentic candidates of their parties, except in situations involving death or voluntary withdrawal as provided by law.
He also highlighted INEC’s Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism for addressing internal party disputes and reminded stakeholders that the nomination window is expected to close before the publication of candidates’ names by the electoral body.
Adiele urged the public to disregard misinformation and avoid being influenced by aggrieved aspirants.
