…Tactical Teams Dismantle Kidnap Camps in Umuaku, Nneato Forests; Suspects Flee
The Abia State Police Command has recovered 28 human skulls and assorted human bones from two suspected criminal hideouts in forests around Umuaku-Isuochi and Nneato in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the discovery was made during an intelligence-led operation carried out on Saturday, September 26, 2026, involving personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Cultism Unit, Intelligence Response Unit, Rapid Response Squad, and the Isuochi Divisional Police Station.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the operation was conducted on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olafolabi, under the command’s “Operation No Hideout for Criminal Elements in the State”.
According to Chinaka, the tactical operatives stormed the suspected camps in the forests for bush-combing operations, but the occupants fled on sighting the security personnel. The criminal camps were subsequently dismantled.
“A total of twenty-eight (28) human skulls and bones, suspected to be those of kidnapping victims, were recovered. Investigation is ongoing, while monitoring of the area continues, and efforts are intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the statement read.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the identities of the recovered remains and the circumstances of death have not been established, with forensic and investigative processes expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that Abia remains a no-hiding place for criminals and their activities, urging residents to collaborate with the police by reporting security concerns to the nearest police station.
The discovery has raised fresh concerns over activities allegedly taking place in remote forest locations in Umunneochi, a local government area that has witnessed previous security operations, including the raid of bushes around the popular cattle market following the kidnapping of former Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche.
