UMUAHIA — An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Abia State, Comrade Chinweuba Anyaragbu, has condemned the suspension of Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze by the management of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), describing the action as a victimisation of truth and an attempt to silence legitimate criticism of the government .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the university suspended Professor Nwaeze, a lecturer in the Department of Economics, over social media posts where he claimed that some professors at the institution earn less than N400,000 monthly and that commercial tricycle (Keke) riders make more money than ABSU professors . The university management described the posts as “inimical to the interests of the institution” .
CDA News Nigeria reports that Anyaragbu argued that if Professor Nwaeze’s claims were false, the government should have provided documentary evidence to counter him rather than resorting to suspension. “Don’t jubilate yet because the man who spoke the truth was victimised, and that might be a stepping stone for his greatness,” Anyaragbu stated. He noted that as a member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the union would likely fight for him .
The suspension comes amid an ongoing indefinite strike by ASUU-ABSU over unresolved welfare issues, including non-implementation of the 2025 salary structure, non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances since 2009, and irregular promotions . The university has constituted an investigative panel to examine the matter .
