The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State has conducted its state congress, producing a new leadership structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held in Umuahia, saw the emergence of Kalu Kalu Agu as State Chairman through an affirmation process, alongside other members of the State Executive Committee.
In his acceptance speech, Agu pledged to unite members of the party and reposition the ADC for electoral success.
He emphasized the importance of reconciliation, noting that bringing aggrieved members back into the fold would be a top priority.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand. We will bring every aggrieved member back to our fold,” he stated.
Speaking on the conduct of the exercise, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Fredrick Onwe, described the process as transparent and in line with party guidelines, expressing confidence in the party’s future in the state.
Also, the State Publicity Secretary, Francess Ogbonnaya, said the party is already positioning itself to field credible candidates for governorship and other elective positions in 2027.
Other key executives elected include Obinna Okey as Deputy Chairman, Chief Mrs. Uwaoma Olewengwa as Secretary, and Henry Nduaka as Deputy Secretary, among others.
Political observers say the congress marks a significant step in the ADC’s efforts to strengthen its structure and expand its influence in Abia State ahead of the next general elections.
