Otti Moves to Resolve Ikwuano LG Crisis, Directs Finance Commissioner, Ubani to Intervene

Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has directed the State Commissioner for Finance, Uwaoma Ukandu, to collaborate with Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Monday Ubani, in resolving the ongoing crisis in Ikwuano Local Government Area.

The dispute involves the Chairman of the council, Anthony Nwaubani, and a councillor representing Oboro Ward 2, Nkemjika Uba. Allegations against the chairman include withholding the councillor’s salary since December 2025 and seizing solar-powered street lights designated for the ward.

Governor Otti made this known during a media chat at the Government House in Umuahia on Tuesday, where he acknowledged awareness of the situation and emphasized the need for a swift and peaceful resolution.

“I am aware of the problem in Ikwuano Local Government and I have directed the Commissioner for Finance and Monday Ubani, SAN, to sit down and resolve the issue,” the governor stated.

He assured residents of the state that the intervention team would work towards achieving a lasting and amicable solution to the dispute, stressing the importance of unity and accountability in local governance.

The development has drawn attention to governance challenges at the grassroots level, with stakeholders expressing hope that the intervention will restore stability and ensure fairness in the administration of the council.
