Akpabio Defends Collaboration Between National Assembly, Tinubu Govt

ABUJA — Senate President Godswill Akpabio has defended the close working relationship between the 10th National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that such collaboration drives national development.

Speaking during the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill on Friday, Akpabio pushed back against critics who label the partnership a “sell-out,” citing historical examples from the United States’ New Deal era and post-war Britain as evidence that progress thrives when government arms work together.

“When the organs of state treat each other as adversaries, the nation pays the price; but when they act as partners under the constitution, stability deepens, reforms take root, and progress becomes possible,”

CDA News reports that Akpabio noted the current Assembly has passed a record number of bills covering security, economic reform, electoral integrity, infrastructure, and social protection, many of which have reshaped Nigeria’s policy landscape.

He acknowledged ongoing challenges like the high cost of living, unemployment, and insecurity but reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to supporting the executive in addressing them.

The Senate President urged Nigerians to continue backing Tinubu’s administration, assuring that the National Assembly remains dedicated to serving the nation.
