SEATTLE/LONDON – In a significant expansion of its ongoing global restructuring, e-commerce and technology giant Amazon has announced it will cut an additional 16,000 jobs worldwide. This new wave of layoffs follows an earlier announcement in October 2025, when the company planned to eliminate 14,000 positions.
The decision was confirmed by Amazon’s Senior Vice President of People, Experience and Technology, Beth Galetti, in a statement on Wednesday. Galetti stated the cuts are aimed at “reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy” within the company’s vast operations.
The latest announcement brings the total number of planned job reductions since October to at least 30,000, marking one of the most substantial workforce reductions in the tech industry’s recent history. The cuts are part of a broader efficiency drive as Amazon seeks to streamline its operations and improve profitability amid changing global economic conditions.
While the company has not detailed which countries or business units will be most affected by the new round of layoffs, the move underscores the continued volatility in the global tech sector as major corporations adjust to post-pandemic market realities and investor pressure for leaner operations.
