Anioma State to Be Created with Asaba as Capital – Akpabio

ASABA, DELTA STATE – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reaffirmed strong legislative backing for the creation of Anioma State, designating Asaba as its capital, while Warri will serve as the capital of the remaining Delta State.

Akpabio made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing party faithful at the South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Asaba. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains firmly committed to the initiative.

“Anioma State will be created, with Asaba as its capital. The Senate fully supports the initiative spearheaded by Senator Ned Nwoko. Warri will be the capital of the new Delta,” Akpabio stated.

The Senate President noted that Warri’s existing infrastructure—including its airport, government offices, major oil companies, seaport, and stadium—makes it well-suited as the administrative hub of the reconfigured Delta State.

He described the agitation for Anioma State as both compelling and historically justified, rooted in equity, administrative efficiency, and balanced development.

The congress was attended by governors from the six South-South states and prominent party stakeholders.

Senator Ned Nwoko, who has championed the creation bid, commended the Senate and all stakeholders for their support, pledging to continue the quest with firm resolve.
