APC Consolidates in Taraba, Welcomes 1,000 Defectors from ADC, PDP Amid E-Registration Drive

JALINGO – In a significant boost to its grassroots structure, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State has formally welcomed over 1,000 defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The new members were led by Acho Righteous, the former ADC candidate for Gassol I State Constituency in the 2023 elections, and Abubakar Surajo of the PDP. The defection ceremony underscored the ongoing political realignment in the state ahead of future elections.

Speaking at the event, Acho Righteous cited President Bola Tinubu’s national reforms and the recent defection of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to the APC as primary reasons for his move. He specifically praised the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme (NELFUND) as a major benefit for youth.

“With the ongoing electronic registration, all my supporters have already commenced the process to ensure we become full stakeholders in the party,” Righteous stated, highlighting the APC’s tech-driven membership drive.

The Gassol Local Government APC Chairman, Ibrahim Adamu, commended the defectors and assured them of equal opportunities and full integration into the party. He noted that Gassol LGA is currently leading in the state’s ongoing APC e-registration exercise, which aims to digitally onboard hundreds of thousands of new members.

The defectors also paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers in the area, signaling a deliberate effort to embed their movement within the local community structure.
