The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has called on the member representing Obingwa-West constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 .
Kalu made the appeal on Saturday during a visit to the Abia lawmaker at his residence in Umuahia, where he congratulated Erondu on his recent constituency empowerment programme .
“Your time in PDP has expired. And I know you as a very smart and intelligent person. Staying back in PDP means underdeveloping yourself and the potentials you have,” Kalu told the lawmaker .
The Deputy Speaker emphasized that APC needs people with potential like Erondu, describing him as a grassroots politician loved by his constituents. He urged the lawmaker to bring his team into the APC, assuring that “the room is big enough for everyone” .
Kalu further disclosed that Abia APC has registered more than 160,000 members so far, dismissing claims that the party lacks presence in the state .
He stressed that delivering President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections is bigger than any personal political ambition, urging collaboration with Erondu for this task. Kalu also encouraged the lawmaker to join the Renewed Hope Partners, a group working to promote Tinubu’s agenda at the grassroots level .
Responding, Erondu thanked Kalu for the visit and pledged solidarity with the President’s re-election bid.
“I want to assure you that the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is non-negotiable irrespective of party platforms,” Erondu stated .
He boldly assured that there is no need for Tinubu to campaign in Abia South Senatorial District, promising to deliver the President with a wide margin in the area .
However, on the issue of defecting to the APC, the lawmaker said he would consult widely with his constituents and supporters before making a final decision .
