APGA, Abaribe Clash Over Suspension, Party Status

UMUAHIA, NIGERIA — The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has accused Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of misrepresenting his standing within the party, insisting that he was suspended rather than expelled.

CDA News Nigeria that at a press briefing in Umuahia, the state chairman, Sunday Onukwubiri, alongside other party leaders, said the senator’s suspension followed alleged anti-party activities. The party challenged Abaribe to provide evidence supporting his claim that he was expelled and urged the Senate leadership to take appropriate action should he fail to resign.

“This is not a witch-hunt. We are acting in good conscience. Senator Abaribe betrayed the party and should relinquish the mandate,” the party stated.

APGA further maintained that Abaribe later resigned voluntarily after failing to respond to allegations leveled against him. According to party officials, he ignored invitations to defend himself before eventually stepping away, and is now attempting to mislead the public about the circumstances of his exit.

The party also argued that his continued stay in the Senate lacks legal backing, emphasizing that the mandate belongs to the party and the electorate rather than the individual officeholder.

However, Abaribe dismissed the claims, insisting that his indefinite suspension effectively forced him out of the party. He described allegations that he sought a dismissal letter as “scandalous and insulting,” maintaining that his electoral victory was driven by personal support from constituents.
