The Nigerian Army has detected and is actively responding to a cybersecurity breach attempt on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, urging the public to disregard suspicious content from the platform .
The Nigerian Army has confirmed an attempted unauthorised access to its official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying immediate technical and protective measures have been activated to secure the platform and prevent further compromise . The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and is being treated as a cybersecurity breach .
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said it is working to “fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control” . The military has warned members of the public and the media to exercise caution and disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content posted from the affected account .
