Bandits Kidnap 50 Elders During Peace Meeting in Zamfara

n a brazen attack, bandits have kidnapped no fewer than 50 elders who had gathered for a peace meeting in Zamfara State, sending shockwaves through the community.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the remote village of Gidan Goga, Maradun Local Government Area, where community leaders had convened to discuss strategies for resolving lingering farmer-herder clashes and negotiating safe passages with local bandit groups.

According to a resident who narrowly escaped, armed men on motorcycles stormed the venue, firing sporadically before rounding up the elders and marching them into a nearby forest.

“They came in large numbers. They told us they were tired of ‘deceitful peace talks’ and took our fathers away,” the witness told CDA News Nigeria.

Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident but stated that details were still emerging. A joint security task force has been deployed to track the abductors.

No group has claimed responsibility, and no ransom demand has been issued as of press time. The state government has called for calm while vowing to secure the victims’ release.
