US Military Confirms Deployment of Troops to Nigeria

The United States has dispatched a small military team to Nigeria to support counter-terrorism operations against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and bandit groups in the country.

General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, head of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), confirmed the deployment during a briefing, stating the team brings “unique capabilities” to enhance collaboration between the two nations.

Nigerian Defence Minister General Christopher Musa (rtd) also acknowledged the presence of the US team but did not provide further operational details.

The deployment follows intensified US concern over terrorist activities in Nigeria’s northwest and northeast, including recent US airstrikes on ISIS-affiliated targets in Sokoto State.

US President Donald Trump had previously warned of possible military intervention over violence targeting Christian communities, a claim the Nigerian government has denied.
