The rift within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Tuesday as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike exchanged heated verbal attacks.
Speaking at the commissioning of the new Oyo PDP Secretariat in Ibadan, Makinde declared that “vagabonds” who had hijacked the party were expelled in November 2025. He admitted he was once aligned with the group but said he had since “repented and become born again.”
In a swift response, Wike’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, fired back, describing Makinde as a “repentant vagabond” and warning that traces of his past “madness” remain.
The exchange underscores the lingering animosity between the two former allies, who were both members of the G5 governors’ group before their fallout after the 2023 elections.
Wike had earlier vowed to monitor PDP activities in Oyo State, accusing some elements of being “internal vampires” within the party.
