LONDON – A high-stakes manhunt is underway for Ifedayo Adedapo Kolawole Adeyeye, a British-Nigerian engineer who was mistakenly released from HMP Pentonville in London on April 21, 2026.Adeyeye, 57, was serving a sentence for kidnapping his five-year-old son, Laurys, from his mother in France in 2024 and transporting him to Nigeria.
Despite receiving an additional 12-month sentence on April 20 for contempt of court, prison staff failed to process the new order, freeing him the next morning.Reports reveal Adeyeye “strolled about” London and enjoyed a pub lunch before potentially fleeing to Spain, according to findings presented to the High Court.
Justice Hayden called the blunder a “failure of the state” and expressed an “alarming lack of urgency” by prison authorities, who took three days to inform police. The High Court has taken the rare step of allowing the publication of Adeyeye’s picture, labeling him a “dangerous threat to his son’s physical and emotional welfare.
“As of May 13, 2026, he remains at large, with efforts now focused on locating him and rescuing the child, who is believed to be in Nigeria. All rights reserved ©2026 CDA News Nigeria.Privacy Policy: CDA News Nigeria is committed to protecting your privacy.
