Car Imports into Nigeria Rebound, Exceed N1 Trillion in Nine Months

Nigeria’s automobile import sector has staged a significant rebound, with official data revealing that the value of imported cars surged past the one trillion naira mark in the first nine months of 2025.

According to the latest foreign trade report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the total value of motor car imports between January and September 2025 reached approximately ₦1.03 trillion. This marks a sharp recovery from previous years, attributed to improved foreign exchange liquidity and sustained consumer demand despite high costs.

The data indicates a strong preference for used vehicles, which continue to dominate the market. The rebound highlights the critical role of the automotive trade in Nigeria’s import economy and ongoing challenges in revitalizing local vehicle assembly plants.
