The Catholic Bishops of the Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province have expressed support for the Federal Government’s renewed efforts to tackle insecurity while urging that ongoing tax reforms be implemented with fairness and sensitivity to citizens’ welfare.
In a communiqué issued after their provincial meeting in Ibadan, the bishops commended the government’s “zealous approach” to addressing banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency. They stated that recent developments show insecurity can be reduced with strong political will and called for sustained collaboration, adequate funding for security agencies, and consistent application of the law.
On tax reforms, the bishops warned against misinformation and poor implementation. They urged authorities to continue public engagement, give the reforms “a human face,” and allow vulnerable citizens time to adapt before strict enforcement, emphasizing that fairness and transparency are crucial to maintaining public trust.
The communiqué was jointly signed by the Chairman, Most Rev. ‘Leke Gabriel Abegunrin, and Secretary, Most Rev. John Akin Oyejola.
