Consumers Breathe Sigh of Relief as Cooking Gas Prices Drop Across Nigeria

In a welcome development for households and businesses nationwide, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has seen a significant drop in major cities across Nigeria over the past few weeks.

This price reduction, reported by dealers and confirmed by market surveys, is bringing much-needed relief to millions of Nigerians who have struggled with the high cost of the essential commodity for most of the year.

A Noticeable Dip at the Pump

Checks at various retail outlets in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano show that the price of a 12.5kg cylinder, the most commonly used size for domestic purposes, has fallen from a peak of between ₦12,000 and ₦14,500 to a new range of ₦9,500 to ₦10,800.

A retailer in the Mushin area of Lagos, Mr. Chukwuma Nwosu, confirmed the trend. “Yes, the price has come down. We are now selling at ₦10,200 for a 12.5kg refill. The cost from our suppliers has reduced, so we are also passing it on to our customers. It’s good for business as more people can afford to refill their cylinders,” he said.
