Dangote Refinery May Become World’s Top Jet Fuel Supplier as Russia Exits Market

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery could gain stronger positioning in the global aviation fuel market following Russia’s decision to extend its ban on jet fuel exports until November 30, 2026, amid sustained attacks on its refining infrastructure .

Russia announced the restriction on Monday, saying the move aims to secure domestic aviation fuel supply as Ukrainian drone strikes continue to disrupt key refineries and export facilities . Although Russia is not a major jet fuel exporter, the development adds to concerns about tightening global supply at a time when demand is recovering.

The timing benefits Dangote, which has rapidly transformed from a domestic supplier into one of the world’s most important aviation fuel exporters . In April 2026, the refinery became the world’s single largest exporter of jet fuel, according to S&P Global Commodities at Sea data .

Recent reports show Dangote shipped about 1.1 billion litres of jet fuel to Europe between March and April 2026, while supplying more than 95 percent of Nigeria’s domestic Jet A1 demand . Europe has emerged as the refinery’s biggest export market, receiving around 70,000 barrels per day in April .

With Russia now suspending exports until November, the Dangote refinery—operating in “max jet mode”—could capture even greater market share in Europe while strengthening its position as Africa’s dominant aviation fuel supplier .
