Drama at Osun Rally: Adeleke Survives Podium Collapse, Continues Campaign

There was palpable panic in Ijebu-Jesa, Ori-Ade Local Government Area of Osun State, on Wednesday after a podium carrying Governor Ademola Adeleke and other top officials suddenly collapsed during a political rally .

The incident occurred during the inauguration of the Imole canvassers for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency. A video of the event showed Adeleke, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, and campaign spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi on the platform moments before it gave way .

A source at the venue confirmed that the collapse caused a brief disruption, but security personnel quickly rescued those affected. “There was no casualty. The event resumed, and the governor addressed the gathering after the incident,” the source said .

Deputy Spokesperson to the Governor, Oladele Bamiji, downplayed the incident, insisting it was not as serious as being portrayed. “The programme went on smoothly. No injuries. Had there been a fatal accident, the event would not have continued,” he said .

After addressing supporters, Adeleke proceeded to another engagement in Odo-Otin Local Government Area. The governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026 .
