EFCC OPERATIVES SEAL OFF STREET AROUND MALAMI’S ABUJA RESIDENCE

ABUJA, NIGERIA – Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have sealed off the street leading to the Abuja residence of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in a dramatic escalation of the ongoing investigation into his tenure.

Heavily armed EFCC personnel cordoned off the upscale Asokoro neighbourhood on Tuesday, restricting movement and preventing access to the former minister’s home. The operation, which lasted several hours, drew attention from residents and passersby.

Sources close to the commission confirmed that the action is part of an ongoing probe into alleged financial improprieties during Malami’s time as chief law officer from 2015 to 2023. The anti-graft agency had earlier marked a property linked to him for forfeiture.

Malami, who has described the EFCC’s actions as “political intimidation,” was not present at the residence during the operation. His legal team has yet to issue a statement on the latest development.

The EFCC has remained tight-lipped on the details of the operation, with spokesperson Dele Oyewale stating only that the commission is carrying out its lawful mandate.
