Eric Opah has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Abia State, clinching the party’s ticket following the conclusion of the governorship primary exercise held at the New State Party Secretariat on Wednesday, May 21, 2026.
Opah’s victory was declared by the party’s primary election committee after the collation of results from across the 17 local government areas of Abia State, formally positioning him as the APC’s standard bearer in what promises to be a fiercely contested battle for the Abia Government House in 2027.
The declaration triggered scenes of wild jubilation among APC supporters and loyalists across the state, many of whom described the emergence of Opah as a turning point for the opposition party’s fortunes in Abia State.
Accepting the party’s ticket with visible emotion and deep gratitude, Opah thanked APC delegates, party leadership, and his supporters across all 17 local government areas for their confidence, trust, and overwhelming support throughout the primary process.
He pledged to run an inclusive, purposeful, and development-driven campaign that speaks directly to the yearnings of Abia citizens for better governance, infrastructural development, economic growth, and improved welfare.
With Opah’s emergence, the Abia APC machinery now shifts fully into campaign mode, as the party prepares to take on the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of Governor Alex Otti in 2027.
Political analysts describe Opah’s victory as a significant consolidation of APC’s growing momentum in Abia State ahead of what promises to be a landmark election year.
