APC Primary in Abia Hits Turbulence as Over-Voting Scandal Rocks 24 Constituencies

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted its House of Assembly primary election across 24 constituencies for 64 aspirants on Wednesday, but the exercise was overshadowed by alarming over-voting allegations.

Publicity Secretary Chief Uche Aguoru confirmed the development to newsmen at the APC Secretariat, off Azikiwe Road, Umuahia, describing the irregularities as unacceptable.

“It’s unimaginable that a ward with about 400 members is delivering a result with 1,000 delegates. The APC will not tolerate such issues,” Aguoru stated.
Our reporter monitoring Ikwuano State Constituency observed incidents of double voting, inflated figures, intimidation of delegates, and denial of agent representation for certain aspirants.

Aguoru urged aggrieved aspirants to file petitions at the party secretariat, announcing that a House of Assembly Appeals Panel would be constituted on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Collation of results was ongoing as at press time, with the APC secretariat in Umuahia besieged by aspirants and stakeholders, including former House of Representatives member, Hon. Sam Onuigbo.
