Ex-presidential candidate praises FG for classifying kidnappers as terrorists, calls for public support and U.S. collaboration.

Former presidential candidate and United Nations-POLAC Peace Consul, Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has hailed the Federal Government’s decision to officially designate kidnappers and violent armed bandits as terrorists.

In a statement released on Monday, Adesanya-Davies described the move announced by Information Minister Mohammed Idris as a “significant shift” in Nigeria’s security strategy.

“This policy change demonstrates a strong commitment to addressing the root causes of insecurity and protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians,” she stated.

She urged the media and citizens to consistently refer to these criminal elements as terrorists to reinforce the seriousness of their actions and ensure a unified national response.

Adesanya-Davies also commended recent security successes, including the capture of high-profile terrorists, and highlighted the deployment of forest guards as a step toward securing vulnerable communities.

In her statement, she appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump to support Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, noting that “terrorism is escalating as ever in Nigeria.”

The reclassification is expected to improve inter-agency coordination and resource allocation in combating kidnappings and banditry across the country.
