NBA Calls for Immediate Suspension of Tax Reform Acts Over Process Concerns

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for the immediate suspension of the implementation of the recently enacted Tax Reform Acts.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, the association raised serious concerns about the legislative process surrounding the passage of the laws, warning that the developments strike at the heart of constitutional governance.

The NBA stressed that the controversies cast doubt on whether due process and established legislative procedures were strictly followed.

“Until these issues are fully examined and resolved, all plans for the implementation of the Tax Reform Acts should be immediately suspended,” the statement read.

The association warned that the legal and policy uncertainty could unsettle the business environment, erode investor confidence, and create unpredictability for taxpayers.

It called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to clarify the circumstances of the enactment and restore public trust in the National Assembly.

The NBA emphasized that laws with profound economic implications must emerge from processes that are transparent and beyond reproach.
