Abia Gives Umuahia Landlords 4-Week Ultimatum for Building Maintenance

The Abia State Government has issued a four-week ultimatum to property owners in Umuahia to carry out essential maintenance on their buildings as part of an ongoing urban renewal enforcement drive.

The directive targets defaced structures, shanties, and illegal obstructions along roads and public spaces within the capital city. Officials say the move is aimed at restoring aesthetic order, improving safety, and supporting the state’s broader urban development plan.

Landlords and owners are expected to clean, repaint, and remove all unauthorized extensions or dilapidated attachments to their properties within the stipulated period. Defaulters may face penalties or enforcement actions by the state task force.

The government reaffirms its commitment to transforming Umuahia into a modern, orderly capital in line with the current administration’s urban renewal agenda.
