A 47-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Nwaobilor, has been arrested in Abia State for allegedly conducting illegal voter registration on behalf of politicians using an INEC registration machine.
The suspect was apprehended at Mbawsi Mini Stadium in Isiala Ngwa North LGA following a tip-off from residents. Police recovered an INEC voter registration device officially assigned to Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
According to the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the suspect confessed to being paid ₦50,000 by an individual named Damian to carry out the unauthorized registration.
INEC officials in the state confirmed awareness of the arrest but noted that the commission is still verifying the suspect’s official status. The police have launched a full investigation to identify others involved in the scheme.
