Deputy Speaker Kalu Commissions Road, Withholds Another Over Defect

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has commissioned the newly completed 5km Alayi–Ugwueke–Akaeze road linking Abia and Ebonyi States, while vowing not to commission the Ozuitem–Uzuakoli road in Bende LGA until a failed section is repaired.

Speaking after the commissioning on Tuesday, Kalu described the Ugwueke–Akaeze road as a vital link that will boost trade and connectivity within the South-East and South-South regions.

On the Ozuitem–Uzuakoli road—a 5.5km project first built in 1981 and now receiving its first tarring since then—Kalu stated that he will not commission it until contractors fix a 10–20 meter failed portion. He has directed the contractors to return to site immediately to carry out the necessary repairs using cement pavement and asphalt.

“I will not commission that road until the portions are fixed… I am ordering the contractors to go and fix that portion,” Kalu emphasized.

Both projects were facilitated by the Deputy Speaker in his capacity as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency.
